"Why God Made Little Boys"

In life, we are blessed with the opportunity to make friends. I have made friends with the parents, Andrew and Kelly, of this sweet child, Asher. I remember the first time Andrew told me he was thinking about pursuing something with a girl. He sent me a picture of her and told me all about her. We met and I judged her. Why? Because I was protecting my friend. Then, I became best friends with Kelly. I knew he was proposing and saw the ring before she did. I was there for the proposal. I stood by their sides the day they got married. I cried happy tears. I watched as he fell in love with Heath and Heath learned to call him "daddy". Their love is a love like no other. I was elated to find out that they were pregnant. Their sweet family was going to grow. Then I saw Andrew and Kelly grow in their marriage and love for each other as Asher grew inside Kelly. There was a miracle happening inside her that taught them both patience and putting the other spouse first. I saw them enjoy last days together as a family of three, before their life would be forever changed. I saw Andrew change Asher's first diaper. (He used a lot of wipes.) I saw how sweetly he wrapped his big arms around Asher's tiny body and just stare at him. I saw how Kelly looked at Andrew, with so much love as she saw him growing as a daddy. Their growth over the past couple of years has been beautiful.

Being parents of a child is not just raising the child, but also teamwork. It is about being parents together and growing together. It is about challenging each other and encouraging each other. It is about celebrating the victories and learning from the mistakes. They are growing together through each and every moment (and sleepless night).

I could write a post of all the funny stories that have happened with Kelly and Andrew together and separately, but I wanted to take the time to highlight how they have grown as a couple and as individuals through Asher being born. Asher is not just a baby. Asher is an opportunity to learn a deeper patience, passion, understanding, humor, and love. They have embraced this as both a challenge and a gift. Watching the two of them grow and overcome the tiredness of parenthood in the early stages is wonderful. They are doing it with such grace and love. Asher and Heath are truly blessed to have them as their parents. When you see them, give them a high five or words of encouragement. Tell them about how great of a job they are doing. Every parent needs this. They truly are doing amazing.

God made the world out of His dreams Of magic mountains, oceans and streams, Prairies and plans and wooded land, Then paused and thought "I need someone to stand On top of mountains, to conquer the seas, Explore the plains and climb the trees. Someone to start out small and to grow, Sturdy, strong as a tree…" And so, He created boys, full of spirit and fun, To explore and conquer, to romp and run. With dirty faces and banged up chins, With courageous hearts and boyish grins. When He had completed the task He'd begun He surely said "A job well done".
